The Amityville Horror

Is he still wearing that shirt?

Rating: 2 Bananas

If you remember watching this as a kid and having the blazes scarred out of you, prepare to be disappointed. The most terrifying thing about this movie is the fact that James "Mr. Streisand" Brolin wears the same filthy, pitted out sweat shirt through the ENTIRE MOVIE. The only thing that kept me awake after watching this was pondering the scene where they show Margot Kidder walking around in only one leg warmer. Can't sleep, must know, WHY ONLY ONE LEG WARMER!?!?

I had actually read the book when I was about 10, and when I heard it was going to be on tv shortly after, I couldn't wait. My brother and I were visiting my dad on his boat, and it was on one of the 2 channels he got! Unfortunatly I hadn't factored in my father's intense dislike of scary movies. But as we sat watching Solid Gold (on the other channel) Dad started to drift off! Hallelujah! When he began to snore, my brother and I looked at each other, nodded, and he got up and tiptoed to the t.v. As his hand was reaching for the knob, from my father's bunk came a muffled "Don't change the channel", and that was the extent of our supernatural experiences for THAT particular evening.

Enough about me, back to the movie. In a nutshell; Some guy kills his whole family while they're sleeping. Another family gets amazing deal on the house. C'mon, I'm pretty sure that if I was offered a huge house on a lake, with a boathouse for only $75.00, I'm pretty sure my first thought would be "Why this place must be crawling with demons!". Maybe I'm just a particularly savy home buyer. The house tells priest to GET OUT! (confirming my suspicions) Dad starts chopping a lot of wood and refuses to change his STINKY SHIRT! Terrifying scene where the money for the caterer can't be found ANYWHERE! There's a window screen covered with FLIES! The little girl befreinds an imaginary PIG!. The dad gets bitten by a CERAMIC DOG! An astonishingly bad special effect or two later, family escapes evil house at last minute. There, now wasn't my story more interesting?
